OK, I think its between the Sig 1911 22B and the Ruger 22/45 target model 10140...
I am researching both these guns and posted on the Sig board about the Sig 1911 22 (GSG makes this) and hoping to get a comparison between the two. I use a Kimber Super Carry Ultra .45 as my carry gun and want something I can afford to shoot a lot on the range, keeping it as close to my carry gun as possible from training purposes. I think both may fit this bill. Anyone in here have both or shot both that can compare?

You said you wanted it to be similar to your Kimber so why not just go with the Sig? Or better yet, Kimber's Rimfire Target.

The expense is why I haven't looked at the Kimber. If I could get a conversion for the Kimber Super Carry Ultra that I have, I might go with that, but can't find one for the Ultra size. Both of these guns are similar in controls and feel to a 1911. The barrel of the Ruger does look and perform differently, but the feel of it seems close enough. I got to find both of these guns so I can hold them.....

I have the Sig 1911 22 and love it. I also have the Ruger SR1911. The Sig breaks down like other 1911's and using a lot of the same parts.

Ok. I bought the river 22|45 mark3 target with the wood grips. Nice looking gun. Haven't shot it yet but will get to range next week. I ordered it from budsgunshop.com. Wow. It only took two days. It was shipped to a local ffl and I only paid them $20 for the transfer. A very slick way to buy. I will use buds again. So far very pleased.

I picked up the same model 22/45 you are considering for the same reasons. I wanted to train and practice cheap. It didn't quite work out that way. I liked that gun so much I put a red dot on it and I've got a VQ sear and trigger and a Sam Lam bushing. Its turning into a target pistol. Looks like I'll need another .22 to use with Iron sights for training I suppose? Oh well.

I have both and shoot both the Sig 1911 22 and Ruger MK III 22 45..The Ruger is the better target pistol. The Sig is pretty close to a full size1911 in weight and looks but isnt near as accurate as the MK III 22 45. Either one has a grip like the 1911 if thats what your looking for as a practice piece..JMO

Been to the range with my Ruger 22/45 and love it. I started off shooting up some very old .22 ammo and did have some mis-fires. I think I had about 6-8 out of about 100, but of most of those, the shells were old and even though the primers got snapped, they did not fire. When I say old, I mean 20 years old. After all that was gone, I fired 50 new rounds without any mishaps, and 20 of these were very rapid firing. The gun is very accurate and has virtually no recoil. The gun stays on target very well. I will go again later this week and don't mind spending the money because I can afford the cheap ammo. Unlike my .45. One thing I did notice where this gun will help me shoot. You can tell if you are anticipating the recoil on this gun since there isn't much recoil and I am used to shooting a .45, so hopefully it will help me not to anticipate the shot. We will see and it will be fun learning more...
