M1 problem with extraction

M1 problem with extraction
I have a nice M1 Garand that I took out to try out and after checking for cleanliness and lubrication I fired one round of a clip of 8 . This was military ammo. The M1 did not extract the case, but pulled the rim of the case off. I unloaded the M1 and when I got home I used a aluminum rod to knock the case out. I cleaned the M1 again and the chamber looks okay. I am afraid to try it again. Should I get new ammo and try it or take it to an expert ?
