I was researching Harrison Custom, found a post by Oak1971 about his Harrison/Baer,...and owning a Les Baer myself, ....I just sort of stumbled onto this forum. I do belong to a few others including also a few Luthier forums.
I first shot a 1911 in college (back then you could take classes in riflery). Then later in the Military. My first of several 1911s was a Lightweight Commander, quite customized in the way they were in the early seventies. ie; S&W adjustable rear sights, red ramp fronts, Kings safety, modified grip safety, fitted frame to slide, and fitted factory barrel. We used squeeze them and peen them back then. Some I'm sure some still do. I belonged to a Pistol Club back then and used it for 'Bullseye' target shooting and for working up loads for both target and hunting. (some like Coopers favorite: 7.5 grains Unique under 200 grain LSWC) After about 5000 rounds (many very heavy) she got some frame cracking at the top rear. I sold her at about 10000 rounds or so (the crack never got larger) and she'd still do an inch and a half or a little more at 25 yards. Like all the rest, I wish I'd never sold her. |

I have been considering the purchase of an entry level 1911 to learn the platform. Was searching custom 1911's and there was a post to this from listed. Read the post, learned a little, thought I'd join and see what else I might learn. Looking forward to deciding which brand to start with, planning and executing mods.

Doing lots of reasearch when deciding to purchase my 1st 1911. Decided on getting a Kimber TLE/RL II. This forum gave me enough information to know I should get a Wilson Combat mag... which I had known nothing about before. My most recent addition is new grips I purchased from http://www.buffalobrothers.net/

How did you find us.
A few years ago I bought my first Colt 1911 my brother-in-law recommended that I join. I am now the proud owner of Six Colt 1911's of various models.

Last year when I was doing all of my research before buying my first gun, I kept coming across this website because of the types of questions I needed answered. Then once my father-in-law got his RIA 1911 shortly after I got mine, he suggested I join. I've never been big on forums but I think for the first time I will benifit greatly from joining one, seeing as how you guys helped my pick out my gun

I was doing some Internet research (Google) for a Dillon RL550b press and a couple of clicks later here I was. I love my 1911s. I have a Springfield and a Norinco.

I came across this site while looking for info on 1911s. After I bought my first 1911, I found myself reading posts from here every time I searched the internet. I'm much better at buying guns than working on them. It took me 15 minutes to put my Slide Stop back in the other day (don't ask, but it had something to do with me thinking the bigger hole on the slide is where it should go through).
Today, after another shooting session, I was cleaning it and realized there were things I wanted to know more about, so here I am. Thanks for hosting this site.

I put a payment down on a 1911, then went home and googled "1911 forum", this site looked respectable and welcoming. Great site!

Howdy from Northwest Texas - where the pan meets the handle.
Looking for reloading data for my newly aquired 1911 assembled and accurized by a young friend. I own many different guns and calibers but have never had a 1911 until recently. It is An awesome gun and I look forward to many years of shooting and enjoying it. I just retired from the State of Texas and plan on spending some of my time enjoying my passion for shooting.
