Colt rail gun sights
I would like to buy a Colt rail gun, but I am not a fan of the Novak style sights. I like the trijicon sights they have listed on their sight for the Colt 1991. Would these sights be able to easily put on the rail gun or not since the slide is fitted with the Novak style sights? The first set on top of the page are the ones I'm referring to.
Here is a link to the sights I would like. http://www.trijicon.com/na_en/produc...ntns.php?mid=4 Last edited by seang; 05-02-2012 at 12:41 AM. |

You need a dovetail front sight cut to fit the Colt as ot is not a Novak dovetail. And a rear sight made to fit a Novak cut. I would email or call them direct.

It won't work if your gun already has a Novak rear sight. The Novak cut is much larger than the sight you indicated in your link. You are stuck with rear sights that fit in the Novak cut.
There are many options: Harrison HD-002, Heinie and 10-8 to name a few. My favorite and preference is the Harrison. ![]() Why don't you like the Novak rear sight?

Out of curiosity, is there any chance that your information is dated? I ask only because I'd heard it both ways (1 - The front sight on Rail Guns is the XSE cut, and 2 - The front sight on Rail Guns USED to be the XSE cut, but is now a Novak front cut), and a Colt rep told me via the telephone this morning that both the front and rear dovetails on the Colt Rail Gun are Novak dovetails. Did I get bad info?

If I were you I would look at the Meprolite option.
Meprolite specifically makes a Colt XSE Novak cut night sight set and the dots on Mepro's are WAY brighter than on Trijicon. I have the Mepro's on my Kimber 1911, HK P30 and on my Sig 225 and I have the Trijicon's on my HK P7 and the Mepro's are a better sight and they cost about the same. I did a google search and found several places selling them for $100 or so. |

1 - Meprolight can't even spell "rifle" correctly on their website. (http://www.meprolight.com/category/Tritium_Military)
2 - Meprolight doesn't appear to have a front sight for a 1911 dovetail under "Colt" manufacturer. 3 - While I consider the Israelis (Meprolight) our staunch allies, I consider people from Michigan (Trijicon) my countrymen...because they are.

I found them for $123 shipped, and this is specifically for Colt XSE Novak's. Trijicon makes great scopes, I wholeheartedly agree the ACOG's and Accupoints etc. are nice scopes, but for pistol night sights there is no comparison Meprolite makes a better, brighter, longer lasting product for the same money. I have both so I can compare. And my night sights on my 1987 Galil were 20 years old before they went completely dim, I would say the Israeli's know a thing or two about night sights. |
