Finally have a Colt

I've been wanting to add a Colt to my collection for some time. I ordered a new Delta Elite a couple of months ago and just picked it up at my LGS. Paid $899. Having shot various 10mm pistols owned by friends, I can see 10mm climbing my list of favorite calibers. I'm anxious to try it but will need to wait for the weekend

I'm impressed with the trigger out of the box. Nice and crisp with no creep. The pull could be a little lighter but I know a good gunsmith who can deal with that down the road. I'm not in any hurry to make changes.

Well the week and weekend have come and gone, and I didn't get to shoot my new DE. Too many family and work obligations. At least I'm traveling all this week so I won't have to think about it.

Very nice Colt. I am also a big fan of the Deltas. I believe everyone needs a blue and stainless.

Three long weeks later, I finally found time to get to the range to try out my new purchase. I have to say it exceeded my expectations, and I've shot DE's before. As I noted before, the trigger is excellent, crisp with no creep. The grips are comfortable although I admit I have mixed feelings about the look of them.

I put about 50 rounds of my reloads through it at 15 yards (180 gr Precision Delta FMJ, some with 10.0gr AA7 and some with 10.5gr AA7). Worked flawlessly. The recoil was a non-issue, quite moderate actually. Accuracy was good but I expect it to improve once I get use to the sights and tune my loads a little.

My only minor quibble would be the sights. I'm not a big fan of three-dot so I may end up changing them at some point.

Definitely a keeper!

I was waiting to see how you liked it. I'm very curious to see how the 10mm feels in a 1911 platform, as I have only experienced it in the Glock 20 form. One day...

Thanks. I've shot a friend's G29 on several occasions, including with some hot DoubleTap ammo, and have no gripes about it or any other Glock (I own a 9mm G26). But it's hard not to like the feel of a 1911 in your hand and the DE feels rock solid. I'm going to try shooting some hotter reloads the next time out.

I do reload - 180 gr Precision Delta FMJ, some with 10.0gr AA7 and some with 10.5gr AA7, is what I shot with on the weekend. If you are going to shoot 10mm then reloading is a great way to keep the cost down...and is a good hobby as you pointed out.
