Upcoming stainless model

Hi All,

The new stainless model should be upon us soon (Feb.). Should a person assume it is like a company's new model, like when the R1 first came out as far as possible kinks needing to be worked out for the first year or so? Or is it like buying a non-stainless R1 as of right now, since they have been out for some time?

I don't know what is involved when a manufacturer begins building the same model except using a different steel, whether that is from cast/forged to stainless or vice-versa.

the standard r1 and stainless have nothing different as far as option unlike the enhanced version but some people just like a steel shinny gun as apposed to blue or black

Has anyone seen or bought a stainless model yet? I'm leaning towards a stainless 1911 but the one I want can't be found, the R1 would be on the top of my list though.

I've not seen one yet. Was there a date they were to ship? It may be like the elusive SR1911.

As far as the OP, there should be no difference. With that said, before I bought my R1 Talo I also looked at the standard R1. The Talo was definately the better of the two. It was better finished and was tighter. Something to keep in mind is that although Remington has produced 1911s in the past, that was close to 100 years ago. They are starting essentially from scratch and there will be growing pains.

I sent Remington and email last night asking about the production of the stainless models, got this reply today:

The Stainless R1 is in production. You should start seeing them at retailers soon.

As of 4/19 at 1 AM EST it is $662! LOL!

Bud's does that. I purchased my Enhanced for $725, two weeks later it was $713. I just received a check for $12 from buySafe for the difference.

Firearms prices fluccuate as much as fuel prices. Ammo is even worse.

I just hope Remington sells the stainless magazines that come included with the R1s. Would round out my magazine stash for my r1 very nicely.

I read Ruger is acquiring or has acquired new machinery to build the SR1911. I have a Para GI Expert bought when Para moved to N.C. from Canada. It has been a lemon.

From what I've read, the Ruger is very reliable, don't know if I would say better. My experience with other Rugers has always been a very reliable, quality product. Their additional manufacturing line has been operational according to the forums. The thing about the Ruger is that it has a few options, that many would install themselves, already installed. If you were to add up the cost of those options, you would more than cover the cost difference. Really depends on if you want a bone stock traditional pistol, or one with the extras already included.

I bought the R1 first. Ruger SR1911 next. I no longer own the R1. FTF, FTE and
sight issues was its down fall. The SR1911 has been perfect since day 1! I can honestly say it rates a place next to my Colts!

Hmm, only issue with my R1 Talo was a loose grip screw after 1st range session. SR 1911s are harder to find than hen's teeth. I refuse to pay MSRP for anything no less a 1911.

Saw the R1 SS at a gun show today, 669.00. It is done up very nice, the SS finish is very similar to that of the SR1911.

I also saw one SR1911, first one I saw in person, other than the one I own. It was marked 899.00 and sold within a half hour of the show opening (I was about the tenth person in the door). Odd thing was, this dealer had excellent prices on everything else. Had the Springfield Range Officer at 740.00 and the Sig P238's at 575.00.

Did you buy the R1 when it first came out? If so, I wonder if that's why there were problems.

I too had heard of some ammo issues with the R1 upon initial release. But after seeing the Enhanced model, I started reading reviews and no longer saw this ammo issue problem that I had been reading about on forums from the early release models. Not sure why that is.

Yep, it was about six months after release.

Quite frankly I would expect some problems with the early models as Remington had not been in the pistol business since WW1. I feel ts an unfair comparison between Ruger and Remington. Ruger has had decades to perfect pistol making. I would expect a SR1911 to be superior to a R1 based on that alone. My Talo R1 has become my favorite carry gun, even over my customs. I don't really know why, I'm just attached to this particular gun. Now once my H&K comes in....

Why would a manufacturer even want to release a product that "May" have problems? Not a very bright decision in my mind. How hesitant do you think myself and others would be to purchase another Remington pistol. Would you want to be burnt again!

We all know that a lemon gets through from time to time. I would "assume" that Remington was confident that their original R1 1911 was ready for release when sales began. They just did not have decades of handgun building experience under their belt. Growing pains so to speak. I'm sure there were plently of problems with the Model T when it was new also.
I think we would agree that DW is one of the better assembly line manufacturers. I had problems when they were "new" to 1911s, they corrected them in such a fashion as to have a life long customer. I own DWs I will never sell. As I stated before, I have no issues with my R1.
