First 1911 - RCS - and question - update
Hi all,
Well I finally purchased my first 1911. Sig RCS two tone. Such a pretty gun, couldn't help but buy it. I overpaid, but I don't care. I have a question, I notice that when there is no magazine inserted, the slide is quite loose on the frame. If I rock my hand back and forth it rattles some. It is better with a magazine in place, but still seems "loose." How much frame/slide play is normal in a new gun? Last edited by rUcnDIS; 03-14-2012 at 10:28 PM. |

What you describe is NOT normal. I can't speak for anyone else that owns a Sig 1911, but mine is tight. No play at all.

Sig was actually fantastic on the phone and is taking the gun back to New Hampshire to take a look at it.

To OP, Sig 1911's are not super tight bullseye guns. They also shouldn't be rattle traps. It's hard for anyone else to know exactly what "quite loose" means to you. My best advice would be for you to compare your gun to other 1911's of all different makes. That way you yourself can get an self educated idea of what's tight and what's loose.

rUcinDIS I'm glad Sig is going to take a look at it for you. All of the Sig 1911's I've shot or handled have been very tight. I'm sure they will take care of you. Let us know!

I looked at the RCS and C3 but ended up with the Ultra Compact and its nice and tight with no wiggle. Sig is very good about taking care of problems. Kind of sucks that you have to send it back but when the finish with it you will be happy with it. I don't carry all of my Sigs but I love each one of them. Greta guns.

Rcs
I have had my RCS about 2 months now. I shot about 400 rounds of ball through it, no problems. It would not feed hollowpoints. Sent it back to SIG on their dime. Has functioned flawlessly since. Slide to frame fit is VERY tight. No rattle. Probably up to about 600 rounds now. It is my everyday carry gun. SIG will take care of you.
Thanks, Mark |

I am confident Sig will remedy the issue, or tell me that it is completely normal. The main reason for the return was that the nitron finish was coming off the beaver tail and grip safety. After sending pics, Sig CS asked me if the gun was used. When I told them it was sold to me NIB two days prior they immediately sent me a shipping label. I'm going to be sick if I was duped into buying a used gun as new. I know I should have looked it over more carefully but I was so excited to find it. Shame on me, but Sig has been awesome so far.

Update - got my RCS back. Grip safety replaced and not working. Can pull trigger and drop hammer regardless of it being depressed. Guess it needs to go back.
