I've got to agree with Nomadz on this one. Richpetrone, you weren't super clear with how you answered the question. You said "self defense". Yoyotweak wasn't asking about self defense. Are you in LE? And if so, when you say "self defense" are you actually refering to duty use? It's none of my business if you're a cop or not. The only reason I ask it is that Yoyo was asking about LE duty ammo and I don't see anything in your reply that states what you carry for duty ammo...

I issue Federal Tactical HST 180 grain in the .40 (P40HST1), Tactical HST 230 grain in the .45ACP (P45HST2) and Federal 115 grain 9BPLE. The ARs get fed Federal Tactical Bonded 55 grain (LE223T1). Qual ammo is American Eagle 180 grain ball in the .40 and 230 ball in the .45ACP. 9mm quals with the 9BPLE as the only 9mm I see are backups/off duty guns.

As you can see, we're happy with Federal. We shoot about 50K rounds a year and in five years as an instructor have seen 3 ammo related failures on the range with it (all ball ammo).

FWIW, as far as a "DA proof round" goes ability, opportunity and jeopardy are the same regardless of what you're feeding the gun. I do live and work in a gun friendly state however.

Georgia agencies choose their own guns and ammo but it's Glock 22/27 heavy with a variety of issue loads.
