I saw a blurb somewhere (probably here at 1911forum), that the Korean government is negotiating with U.S. importers to bring tens of thousands of Garands an M1 Carbines back to the U.S. Although I suspect they will show up at $1000 retail, we can hope that they'll be more competitive with CMP pricing.

As a garand and M1A owner I will be the first to say the garand is a great weapon but the M14/M1A is a definite improvement. Detachable 20-30 round magazine vs 8 round en bloc. Mags can be topped off while still in the weapon while the en bloc cannot. Fires 7.62 nato which is more accessible in certain regions in a possible SHTF scenario since it is a miltary standard whereas the 30M2(30-06) is no longer in use by our guys or anyone else for that matter. Mounting of a scope or other optics is easier, scope mounting on a garand is not exactly user friendly.

Yes it is true. I doubt the prices will be that high. The sale price was in the press release and it was something along the lines of $120ea. I would guess we will see the $5-600 range, well I hope anyway I want to see what kind of condition they are in, I hope to get good condition carbine.

since they're still keeping most of their carbines for reserve units, we'll probably just get the ones that weren't in the best shape. I hope they're decent shooter with good barrels though, I'd love to add one to my home armory.

I have been talking about driving over to CMP for a few months (Before I drove up to NY last Sept) but I came down with something that makes me all tired out and weak. As soon as I shake what ever has me feeling weak I am going to drive over and buy at least one. I drove 12 miles to drop off a check for 2 Calico guns and was so wiped out I went to bed and slept all afternoon. I can't seem to get enough sleep an matter how many hours I sleep i am still tired

Sorry you are feeling ill. I just got through with something sounding similar to your's. I lost 17 pounds in A WEEK and I didn't have any "stomach distress" at all, just didn't feel like eating. Don't fight the "energy drain". Sleep as much as possible and don't let yourself get dehydrated. Once it passes, don't expect to get "instant energy" back. I can't work the whole day yet without tiring past being able to function.

Thank sounds exactly what I am going through. I got up feeling pretty good yesterday and tried to catch up on work that had piled up around the house. Within 30 to 40 minutes I started feeling weak all over again. I think that what ever I have is getting better but it seems to be a slow recovery

PS I also don't feel like eating

As a owner of a M1 all I can say is every red blooded American gun lover should have one! Mine hangs on the wall with an American flag behind it. Shooting it is a little piece of heaven. We had M14's in the Corps and I love it also but it dosen't go "CHING" on the last shot. I do want a 14 for my arsenal but they are still pricey! I also have a 1943 original M1 carbine that was given to me by a friend that passed away. And of course my 1911. I'm new to the forum but am having a ball so far.....SemperFi

I was talking with a Marine buddy last night. He's the armorer for just about every organization that is Marine related or Garand related in this part of the country.

His opinion is that the Garands and carbines coming from Korea will be a couple of steps above scrap metal.

This summer he and I sat down and built me a H&R Garand with a LMT barrel. All new parts. Have not yet had a chance to shoot it yet but that rifle is tight.
