Hornady TAP Pistol Ammo....
Hello.
I recently saw some of this in a local shop in 9mm. The bullet appeared to be an XTP that was not seated as deeply in the case as it is in their "Custom" line of pistol ammo. If anyone has any information on how this ammunition performs and velocity, I'd sure appreciate hearing from you. Best. |

Hmmm, looked all over the web for this stuff and can not find anything about it.
A guess though; they could be a Hornady version of Glasers/MagSafes. A bullet filled with fine shot would tend to be longer for a given weight (air or resin filler inbetween the shot), hence the appearance of them being not so deeply seated. Is the core lead and visible? [This message has been edited by LAK (edited 09-09-2001).] |

Hello. Talked with a fellow who said that the TAP pistol ammo is good stuff, but loaded to regular velocity levels. The bullet is not an XTP, but one that more aggressively expands. I'll likely test the stuff in the near future. Best.

Stephen,
Yeah; I realized afterwards that (I believe) the TAP ammo line is aimed at the same market as Federal's "Tactical" line. The rifle TAP ammo has been on the market for quite awhile, but I have no experience with it. |

From an email from Hornady's Webmaster-
"We make two TAP rounds in the 45 ACP. We have a 200 gr and a 230 gr both are hollow point XTP designed for required expantion and pennetration. The 200 velocity is 900 fps and the 230 is at 850 fps. The 200 will be more frangeable on wall board and the 230 doe more stopping power. Designed for law enforcement it will give the required 12" of penetration." |

Here is the response I got concerning Hornday TAP pistol ammo:
"In 9mm there are no differences between TAP and Custom. It's just repackaged. There are bullet differences in the .40 S&W and .45 Auto ammunition bullets form the old XTP bullets. However, the changes made for the Tap ammo bullets were incorporated in the both the component and custom ammo bullets." Best. |
