I found some .45acp PMC Gold Starfire 230gr HP for 16.99/box of 20. What do you think of this defensive ammo? Is it reliable with the 1911 platform? Is the price reasonable?
I had 2 boxes of that old stuff in .40 and .45.It jammed in both my kimber and my wifes glock. It had ElDorado on the box.The New starfire stuff I have no experience with and don't think it has ElDorado on the box.PMC Bronze 230gr round ball is some realy great ammo though!
I saw a video on youtube where that load in 9mm DID NOT EXPAND AT ALL when it encountered denim in front of the simulated test media. I used to carry that load in my Kahr but then switched.
It is a .45 though.....expansion is really a plus anyway.
Starfire in .45 is meh, and has some feed issues for some. Old design, though. Firearms Tactical's print of FBI results have it doing quite well in 1994. Ayoob sure liked it on hogs (if anyone cares) but that was a few years ago, and it's now made overseas. For a SD round, it needs a re-work. In fact, their main offices are 20 mins from my house in Seoul. I'm tempted to walk in there and apply for some PT work editing and such. Maybe I'll hint around that they could make a lot of money with a new design and some slick marketing.
Check with Wilson, ASYM, Underwood and Buffalo Bore. All of them load good stuff, and offer loads using either the Barnes' SCHP or the Speer Gold Dot bullet. They also seem to have these items in stock fairly regularly.
Seen the 9mm for sale at an ammo site for 70 cents a round. Tough pill to swallow on that one. Wilson makes great ammo and are doing back orders, their prices havent increased since the hype either.
