I sometimes carry a 42 and handload the XTP bullet for 850 to 900 fps. In all the tests I've seen 10-12" is what's recommended for any bullet. 27" is way to much for me. I like the looks of that...

I run 16 lb spring in my Commander. Throws the brass 6 to 8 feet so I could go to an 18, but it's running very well, so I'll leave it alone. This is with 230 gr defense ammo.

As far as factory, Fed HST and Speer GD. Handloading I load Hornady XTP to around 900 fps. Expands very well at that velocity. Haven't had any FTFs.
